Program Description

This rewarding career offers students the opportunity to enter the child care profession in one of many child care related occupations. In addition to learning how to attend to children’s basic needs, students learn to organize activities that stimulate the child’s physical, emotional, intellectual, social and creative growth. With over half of all mothers now working outside the home, well-trained child care givers are in great demand. This program provides instruction in the classroom and laboratory, as well as supervised practicum experiences. The program provides a stepping-stone for students seeking degrees in education, counseling and child development.

The following programs are available:

Early Childhood Development I prepares students for child care assistant teacher.

Early Childhood Development II prepares students for master teacher.

Paraprofessional/Instructional Assistant prepares students for child care ssistant teacher and paraprofessional

Salary Range

Entry Level $5.15 - $7.50/hour
With Experience $6.00 - $9.04/hour

  • Certifications Available

    ELCCT (Entry Level Child Care Training) fulfills DHS ELCCT requirements

    Year two fulfills DHS Master Teacher requirements

    Fulfills the educational requirements for the Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.

    Ppraprofessional credential fulfills the educational requirements for the Child Development Associate CPR First Aid.
