PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The sky's the limit in the aviation industry. The aviation maintenance technician is responsible for the inspection, repair, and maintenance of today's technologically advanced aircraft. Aviation Maintenance Technology, an 18-month program certified by the Federal Aviation Administration, begins with the General course and/or equivalent experience. The student may then enroll in the 660-hour Airframe course. Classrooms, practical labs, and separate airframe and powerplant hangars with a variety of aircraft are used for academic and hands-on training. Students will learn aircraft structures; non-metallic, sheet metal, and fabric repair; aircraft paint and finishing; aircraft welding; aircraft assembly, rigging and inspection; diagnosis and repair of hydraulic and pneumatic systems; landing gear; cabin atmosphere systems; and instrument, fuel, ice and rain, and fire protection systems.
