General Information

Program Length: 1,980 clock hours
FAA requirements to be eligible to take the Airframe and Powerplant Certification Exam
High School Hours:

7:30 to 10:00 (AM Class)*
11:30 to 2:00 (PM Class)*

Tuition

High school students who reside in the Metro Technology School District receive their high school AMT (Aviation Maintenance Technology) classes at no cost.

High school students who are OUT OF DISTRICT or HOME SCHOOLED and who have completed appropriate paperwork ("reciprocity agreement for out-of-district" and "adult enrollment process" for home schooled students)* receive their high school AMT classes at no cost.

Once the student is transferred from the High School Program to the Adult program, students will be charged the hourly rate of tuition.

Scholarships Available


Senior Take Off Scholarship        Will earn 660 hours maximum waived

Requirements for the Senior Scholarship

All of the following requirements must be met to receive the Senior Scholarship:

  • Start the above Metro Tech career cluster or pathway during my senior year
  • Meet Metro Tech attendance policy requirements my senior year at Metro Tech (currently 90% attendance)
  • Maintain at least a "C" average in my Metro Tech program (70%)
  • Graduate from high school
  • Attach a recommendation letter from my Metro Tech instructor stating that I have shown the ability to benefit from the program and that they recommend me as a recipient of the Senior Scholarship
  • Return this application WITH the recommendation to the Aviation Counselor by the designated date AND
  • Acknowledge by a signature on the scholarship application that it is understood that the Senior Scholarship must be used either continuously with summer enrollment in 07 or as openings are available for the next Adult Class Start Date. Student must enter Metro Tech on or before the next Adult Start date in order to utilize the Senior Scholarship.

The Metro Tech Senior Take Off Scholarship is a tuition waiver, NOT A CASH AWARD, for 660 hours training. It is for tuition only and DOES NOT include books.

The student is responsible for payment for and/all tuition and fees that are not covered by the Senior Scholarship.

 

Completion Scholarship         Will earn a maximum of 1,560 hours waived

Requirements for Completion Scholarship

All of the following requirements must be met to receive the Senior Scholarship:

  • Start the above Metro Tech program during my senior year OR have attended both junior AND senior year,
  • Meet Metro Tech attendance policy requirements my senior year at Metro Tech (currently 90% attendance)
  • Maintain at least "87.5%" average in my Metro Tech program
  • Graduate from high school
  • Return the recommendation letter from the Metro Tech instructor stating that the student has shown the ability to benefit from the program and that the student is recommended as a recipient of the Completion Scholarship
  • Return the application WITH the recommendation to the Metro Tech site counselor by the designated due date AND
  • Acknowledge by signing application that it is understood that the student realizes that the Completion Scholarship must be used continuously

The Metro Tech Completion Scholarship is a tuition waiver, NOT A CASH AWARD, for up to 1,560 hours training. The Completion Scholarship is for tuition only and DOES NOT include books. The student is responsible for payment for and/all tuition and fees that are not covered by the Completion Scholarship.

 

Important Scholoarship Information

Students earning the COMPLETION scholarship will need to MAINTAIN an "87.5%" average for each pathway completed. For example, an "87.5%" will need to be maintained in "General". Then, an"87.5%" will need to be maintained at the end of "Airframe" for the student to continue scholarship eligibility.

 

Enrollment

  • Metro Tech District - High school juniors and seniors

Students from the Oklahoma City Public Schools and Crooked Oak Schools are considered "in-district".

These students will enroll AT THEIR HOME HIGH SCHOOL with the appropriate Metro Tech Recruiter in the Spring. For questions, you may contact Laurice Butler, Director of Advisement, at 605-4444 or Laurice.butler@metrotech.org.

Students will ALSO be required to take an entry assessment at the Aviation Career Center. Students may call 605-5540 or email ccollins@metrotech.org to schedule one of the following ASVAB* (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery of Tests) assessment dates currently offered on Saturdays:

17 May 2008
21 June 2008
19 July 2008

There is no charge for the test.

Location for the test is 5600 South MacArthur, at the Aviation Career Campus.

The test is from 9 am to Noon on the Saturdays listed.

Before the test, the student will "sign up" for a mandatory appointment with the Aviation Counselor. Parents are requested to attend. At that meeting, the student and parent will have the assessments interpreted and develop an INDIVIDUAL CAREER PLAN for the student.

Student Organizations

High school students enrolled in Aviation Maintenance Technology will be required to be involved in a student organization that encourages leadership, teamwork and community involvement.
